STF-3200M - Simple, Powerful and 3.21 megapixels:

The STF-3200M is essentially the same camera as the STF-402M except that the imaging CCD.  The KAF-3200ME is over 4X larger and it has more than 8X the number of pixels than the KAF-0402ME.  This CCD is 2184 x 1472 pixels at 6.8 microns.  [Note:  Due to the size of the array, the internal filter wheel cannot be used.] The STF-3200M, like the STF-1603M, is intended primarily for industrial and life science applications where a faster download rate is more important than maximum cooling or self-guiding.  Of course it will also perform very well for astronomical applications, particularly where an external guider and filter wheel are  already available. 

KAF-3200ME High QE CCD

The STF-3200M uses the same CCD as the STT-3200ME with extraordinary high Quantum Efficiency (QE).  A micro lens layer over the pixels of the CCD has significantly increased the QE of this detector.  With a peak QE around 85%, the KAF-3200ME is perhaps the most sensitive front illuminate CCD available.  Previously, this level of QE was achievable only through the expensive process of thinning the wafer and illuminating the image sensor from the backside.  The QE for the blue wavelength of 400 nm is nearly double that of the 3200E and there is a 30% increase in QE over the 3200E (from 65% to 85%) at the important deep red H-alpha emission line.  A comparison of the QE of the former KAF-3200E and the current KAF-3200ME CCDs is shown in the graph below: 

 

The STF-3200M camera comes with CCDOPS Version 5.
